Homework guidelines scrapped

Education Secretary Michael Gove has scrapped the guidelines for home study introduced by the Labour Government in 1998.  This follows complaints from parents that too much homework is  limiting family life and opportunities for children and young people to engage in play and sport.

Headteachers will now be able to determine how much homework to set or indeed whether to set homework at all.

This move seems generally to have been welcomed by headteachers.
