Education Endowment Fund

In 2010, the DfE announced the government’s intention to provide funding to set up the Education Endowment Fund (EEF), an independent charity dedicated to raising the educational attainment of disadvantaged pupils in English primary and secondary schools.
The DfE awarded management of the EEF to the Sutton Trust, in partnership with Impetus Trust, and has committed £125 million to the EEF.  With investment and fundraising income, the EEF hopes to award up to £200 million over the 15 year life of the Fund.
The EEF went live in July and information about its vision, ways of working and how to apply for funding can be found on the EEF web site.
In August, it was announced that Dr Kevan Collins, currently Chief Executive of Tower Hamlets LA has been appointed as Chief Executive of the EEF
In another development designed to support narrowing the attainment gap, the government has announced that it plans to double the total funding available for the Pupil Premium in 2012/13.  Funding will rise from £625 million nationally in 2011/12 to £1.25 billion in 2012/13. The DfE is also currently consulting on the method for determining eligibility for the premium and whether this should be widened from the current eligibility for Free School Meals.
